U.S. Senator Katie Britt Speaks at MMI
On Oct. 9, MMI welcomed U.S. as a Distinguished Speaker for the college鈥檚 Anthony J. Rane Center for Leadership.
Speaking in MMI鈥檚 historic Chapel, Sen. Britt shared part of her journey to win the 2022 Alabama Senate race, including the sacrifices her family was willing to accept with the job ahead. Motivated to preserve the American Dream for her children and future generations, she encouraged the audience to stand firm in their own convictions.
Touching on lessons learned early in her career, she told the college cadets: 鈥淒o not let what other people think limit what is possible for you. It is absolutely true that the world places limitations on us. But I have found, in my life, that it is the limitations we place on ourselves that do the most damage. So believe in what you are capable of, block out the noise of the world, and go.鈥�
Sen. Britt also noted the importance of staying true to your values in leadership positions, mentioning sage advice given by her grandfather: 鈥淭he things that will determine your path in life, Katie, are your character, your integrity, your work ethic, and the way you treat people. And I鈥檝e got great news. You, and only you, control all four of those things,鈥� she recalled.
In closing, she stressed building relationships based on trust and respect and standing back up after life鈥檚 failures.
Following Sen. Britt鈥檚 address, the entire Corps of Cadets conducted a noon pass in review in her honor. She then made time to meet multiple students and inquire about their personal path to Marion. Afterwards, select cadets and MMI administrators joined Sen. Britt and her staff for a luncheon in the Dining Hall鈥檚 special event space.
