The Commandant鈥檚 Office puts the 鈥渕ilitary鈥 into 外网天堂. This office oversees all aspects of Cadet life outside of the classroom and athletic fields. The Commandant鈥檚 office is responsible for the safety, security, health, nutrition and most of the physical fitness and wellness of our cadets. It is charged with running the uniform department, book store, mail room and the barbershop. We manage the gym and the pool and outdoor recreation facilities. At the core of our mission, we are responsible for the day to day mentoring, training and conduct/discipline of the Corps of Cadets. We work hand in hand with 外网天堂, Athletics and ROTC programs to ensure our cadets get the best experience possible during their time at MMI and are prepared to take the next step in their life journey.
Commandant鈥檚 Office.聽 The Commandant is located in the south wing of the Chapel above the Anthony J. Rane Center for Leadership. As the Vice President for Student Affairs, he works closely with the President and Executive Vice President in the management of the college.
Deputy Commandant of Cadets.聽 The Deputy Commandant of Cadets鈥 office is located in the Guard House.聽 He oversees the daily administration and operations of the Corps of Cadets.聽 He is assisted by the Assistant Commandant for Operations and Administration, the Assistant Commandant for Cadet Wellness, and the Senior Officer in Charge (security).
Auxiliary Services.聽 The Director of Auxiliary Services and her staff oversee the operation of the Uniform Department, Bookstore, Mail Room and Barber.聽 Her office is located in the Bookstore.
Health Services.聽 The Health Services Director and her assistant are responsible for all cadet medical needs.聽 Her office is located in the Cadet Health Clinic, in the Ireland Athletic Center.
Fitness.聽 The weight room supervisor and her assistant oversee the operation of the 外网天堂 Gym. This fitness center provides a wide range of weight, cardiovascular and cross fit type training opportunities to the Corps of Cadets.聽 The Commandant鈥檚 Office also is responsible for the indoor pool and MMI鈥檚 track and field facilities.
Colonel Edwin W. Passmore completed 31 years of active duty in the United States Army in February 2013.聽 During his career he served as a Tactical Intelligence Officer in Airborne and Special Operations units; as a Strategic Intelligence Officer with the US Space Command as well the Intelligence Advisor to the Kuwait Ministry of Defense, supporting OPERATON IRAQI FREEDOM, where he was responsible for the integration of intelligence reporting systems to coalition forces.聽 During OIF he also conceived, organized and led Task Force Hope.聽 Composed of Kuwaiti personnel, TF Hope was responsible for the recovery of the remains of over 400 Kuwaiti and third country nationals missing in Iraq since the first Gulf War.聽 From OIF Ed deployed to Afghanistan where he served as the Chief of Staff for the Office of Security Cooperation. 聽Ed was responsible for the organization, training, and equipping of the Afghan Security Forces and oversaw the successful integration of the Afghan Police Program in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM.
In 2005 he completed three straight years deployed in support of combat operations.聽 During the last half of his military career Ed Passmore was a Latin American Foreign Area Officer.聽 In this capacity he worked at the US Southern Command and has been a member of the embassy country teams in Uruguay, Brazil, and as the military group commander in Venezuela, and Argentina.聽 Upon retiring after 30 years of service Ed was immediately recalled to active duty to serve as the Army Attach茅 in Mexico.聽 Over his career Ed has worked in every country in South and Central America and the Caribbean.
Ed鈥檚 military education includes being one of only three Senior Army Fellows, completing his fellowship at Harvard鈥檚 Weatherhead Center for International Affairs in 2008.聽 He is a graduate of the US Army War College and Defense Intelligence College鈥檚 Post Graduate Intelligence Program.聽 Other training includes Infantry and Military Intelligence officer basic and advanced courses among others.
Ed has earned master degrees from Georgetown University (Latin American Studies) and the United States Army War College (Strategic Studies).聽 He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut in Political Science.聽 Ed was a Distinguished Military Graduate of UCONN鈥檚 ROTC program and was inducted into the inaugural class of the US Army ROTC Hall of Fame in 2016.
Ed established his own international/security affairs consulting firm, SanTak Consulting, in 2012.
Ed is married to Susan (Nichols) and they have two adult daughters, Renee and Abigail.聽 They built (by hand) a retirement home on the family farm just outside Marion, Alabama.
